What is 430 stainless ?

430 stainless steel, known as "stainless iron" in our stainless steel industry, has good corrosion resistance and better thermal conductivity than austenitic stainless steel. At present, it is mainly used in architectural decoration, some home appliance parts, and fuel burners. 430 is applicable to normal temperature or high temperature such as components.

430 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel ≠ food-grade stainless steel, only the stainless steel that meets the national GB9684 standard certification and can really come into contact with food without causing physical harm is food-grade stainless steel.

Regular manufacturers generally use 304 (ie 18-8) and 430 (ie 18-0) stainless steel as forks and spoons. 430 is magnetic, and 304 is micromagnetic. So when purchasing stainless steel tableware, you can easily judge it with a magnet.

Stainless steel products for food are divided into two categories according to their uses. One is tableware containers, which refer to stainless steel utensils used to hold food, that is, pots, bowls, basins, etc. There is also a class of stainless steel tableware, which is usually tableware such as knives, forks, spoons, chopsticks, etc. that come into direct contact with food.

The main safety concern of stainless steel for food contact is the migration of heavy metals. Under normal circumstances, stainless steel products do not pose a food safety risk during the process of holding, cooking or contacting food. 430 stainless steel is not food grade, 430 belongs to ferritic stainless steel, with magnetism, known as stainless iron, used to make knives, etc. ). Such as 201 202 301 304 (austenite has good corrosion resistance), so 430 stainless steel is not very safe to make tableware, because 430 stainless steel has poor corrosion resistance.

430 Features

1. Corrosion resistance

430 stainless steel contains 16.00-18.00% chromium, basically no nickel metal, 304 stainless steel contains more chromium and nickel metal, so the corrosion resistance of 430 stainless steel is not as good as that of 304 stainless steel.

2. Stable performance

430 stainless steel is in the form of ferrite, 304 stainless steel is in the form of austenite, and 304 stainless steel is more stable than 430 stainless steel.

3. Toughness

304 stainless steel has strong toughness, stronger than 430 stainless steel.

4. Thermal conductivity

The ferrite of 430 stainless steel has better thermal conductivity than the austenite of 304 stainless steel.

5. Mechanical properties

430 stainless steel is added with a stable chemical element titanium, and the mechanical properties of the weld are better than 304 stainless steel.

430 stainless steel application :

1. 430 stainless steel is mainly used for architectural decoration, fuel burner parts, household appliances, and home appliance parts.

2. Add 430F steel with easy cutting performance to 430 stainless steel, which is mainly used for automatic lathes, bolts and nuts.

3. Add Ti or Nb to 430 stainless steel, reduce C content to 430LX, improve processing performance and welding performance, mainly used in hot water tanks, hot water supply systems, sanitary appliances, durable household appliances, bicycle flywheels, etc. .

430 stainless steel has good thermal conductivity and mechanical properties. For architectural decoration, fuel burner parts, household appliances, home appliance parts and other fields, 430 stainless steel is better.
